I know people are hesistant when they hear “FREE” services b/c nothing in the world is free. I do call automotive businesses either creating my own lead, Yahoo Locals, or I saw they’re services on a local ad/newspaper to get them to see what we can do for their business. I know auto repair shops are busy, but what’s best way to approach via phone call? I’m very quick & str8 to the point of what we do, then I ask them for their email (I also say we don’t spam, it’s free).

I’m thinking about applying at the Wal-Mart in Gallipolis or Athens Ohio just for the summer and early fall.
I worked six years at Publix Supermarket as a cashier and even helped trained some of them.
While I would like to work as a tire/lube tech since I will be majoring in automotive service management in the spring I can work in any dept they need.

Sound Application Development Services are in Great Demand

Arun Gupta asked:

Today’s companies face a broad array of challenges, including an overabundance of business systems, such as ERP, portals, and a plethora of customized systems lacking a single view of enterprise. As a result, business processes are fragmented over multiple products. Frequently, data is duplicated and inconsistent. When combined with rigid infrastructures, interactions are inefficient and processing is slow. These problems rise exponentially when multiple locations and complex information interactions are spread across different systems. A majority of big IT players like Satyam have therefore taken the Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) route.

As companies move to adopt this route, their application development services are bound to change drastically. In fact, it promises to transform the basic definitions of “application” and “development” themselves as a result of SOA’s promise to shift the responsibility of application testing and the consequent development into the hands of the business user. It’s crucial, therefore, for developers, business users of information technology (IT), and the consultants that serve them to understand the changing nature of application development services and the process for creating and managing them in this context.

This practice helps in addressing issues, simplifying and streamlining complex interactions, and enables organizations to focus on profitable growth, rather than system integration and maintenance. Moreover the consistent application testing further guarantees the smooth functioning of each of the processes. The SOA context mandates a form of application generally known as a composite application. Composite applications consist of services orchestrated or otherwise combined into service oriented processes, which are in turn exposed as services. The formation of application development services therefore involves configuring such processes. Most composite application developers are business users who work with tools that enable the configuration of metadata, thus enabling them to create and manage business logic declaratively rather than programmatically above the services layer of abstraction that SOA provides.

Come to think of it, implementing SOA isn’t traditional systems engineering (TSE) at all, but rather a fundamentally different approach to dealing with complexity in the IT environment. Needless to say, this realization is an especially big wakeup call for people with TSE backgrounds! Essentially, with SOA we’re building for change, while with TSE, we’re building for stability. The problem with stability, of course, is it only takes the business so far — if the organization requires business agility, then they’re much better off implementing SOA.

Glady Reign asked:

The Swedish brand Volvo recently received awards from Carlisle & Company for their excellence in the distribution of their service parts. Volvo Cars North America was given the distinction as having the number one automotive parts distribution network in the United States by the private consulting firm.

Carlisle & Company polled 14,000 parts manager which represents 19 car manufacturers with operations in the United States to come up with the winner for the distinction.

“Being selected as top performer has been one of our long term objectives, actually since 1992,” says Robert Deutsch, the North American Parts Manager for Volvo Cars. “We started with a rather good system and have systematically improved it over the years. Today our total service parts network is focused on delivering the right part, at the right time, every time… we strive for perfection,” he added further.

The award given to the company is the Service Parts Supply Chain Fulfillment. The award recognizes the Swedish firm’s dedication to provide their consumers utmost satisfaction in every part of Volvo car ownership. The distinction means that Volvo is successful is providing spare parts like Volvo tune up parts to their consumers. They achieved this feat by making sure that their parts distribution network is effective in its task.

“Today, the new car sales experience is just the first touch for customers visiting Volvo retailers. Ownership expectations, and of course meeting those demands, are key to having repeat new car sales,” says Deutsch. “Our whole parts organization should take credit for this achievement. Without a collective effort and holding to our long standing objective of end service to the customer, this award would not have been possible.”

Aside from the Service Parts Supply Chain Fulfillment award, Carlisle & Company also acknowledged Volvo Cars of North America as one of the three Best Practice Leaders for Global Supply Chain Fulfillment. The three winners of the award came from the automotive, agriculture, and construction equipment fields. “Volvo was the only automotive manufacturer to be recognized for superior total Parts distribution processes,” says Deutsch of the citation.

“Our global approach is based on Volvo Cars, Sweden’s unique approach of handling functions that best done centrally and of allowing in-country markets to be a local extension of the total logistics system. We have an extremely good supply structure that is both global and local at the same time,” he continues.

The Swedish company is known for producing safe cars and this year has marked its 80th anniversary. For the 2008 model year, the company’s offering for the United States auto market are the Volvo S40, S60, S80, V50, V70, XC90, C30 and the C70. These cars are known for their safety - in fact, the C70 convertible recently received the Top Safety Pick from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). This shows that Volvo does not only excel in the distribution of their auto parts but also in providing their customers with safe vehicles.

The award was announced after rumors started in the auto industry surrounding the fate of Volvo Cars. It is speculated that the Swedish car manufacturer will be sold by the struggling Ford Motor Company. Volvo is currently part of Ford’s Premiere Automotive Group (PAG) along with British luxury brands Jaguar and Land Rover.

Why Should You Use Automotive Direct Mail Marketing?

April Kerr asked:

Are you aware of the fact that automotive direct mail marketing ranks as the most commonly read type of direct mail? In fact, one survey says that 73 percent of automotive buyers would respond to direct mail than any other forms of marketing. That said, this could be the main reason why a lot of auto dealers as well as manufacturers would use this than any other.

Above any other, direct mail is flexible. This tactic can support almost any kind of marketing objective. No matter if it is a service reminder to an existing customers or an already programmed strategy for potential buyers, this marketing tactic is expected to provide sensible result.

Also, direct mail is undoubtedly cost-effective. It can be created to suit any marketing budget because of various factors. For one thing, it can be as simple and plain as a postcard or a complex superbly designed brochures. In view of this, anyone can create a piece that will not just match the taste of the present generation but will also be friendly to their wallet.

It is also thrifty because it operates on volume factor since a lot of companies provide price breaks with every increased volume which simply suggest that the more you send mails, the more you will be able to save per piece. Direct mail can adapt to your budget thus it can simply be scaled up or down depending upon your longing.

Furthermore, direct mail is measurable. Truth is, it is one of the most measurable tactics in the whole field of marketing channels. The moment when you have a response-tracking mechanism on hold, the rest comes easy. With the help of radio and television advertising, you will lose track of how many people would be able to saw your ad although you can of course still count responses.

Truly, automotive direct mail marketing is a powerful tool to use although it still calls a good deal of planning, investigation, researches and analysis. You still need to be aware of its ins and outs before you can say that it is really meant for you. Try to study how the market revolves and how can you really make use of direct marketing towards your benefit before doing anything. Keep in mind that an action planned is an action worth taking.

There are various data and information in the Internet that would be able to help you with your needs, don’t fail to check them out. If something confuses you along the way, do not fail to ask around. Many forums are especially dedicated for people who want to get a sensible advice how the whole direct marketing operates, you can ask on that venue so real people can answer your query. Or if not, you can look for websites that features articles about your particular question, doing this will give you the chance to get reliable answer from an expert.

Good luck to your direct marketing endeavors!

Automotive Navigation System Making Driving Less Stressful

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

George Wood asked:

Driving has become a lot easier with the introduction of automotive navigation system. Now you do not have to worry while you drive because this system makes sure that you reach your desired destination without wandering aimlessly. It was first designed by Honda in 1983 but an accelerometer was used along with to judge locations as GPS was not available then. The commonly used navigation systems today are Garmin Street Pilot, Navman iCN Series, Etak, Gizmondo, Hertz Neverlost, Nextel TeleNav, Tom Tom and Pioneer.

It is a navigation system which is used especially in automobiles and help in determining their position with the help of signals from satellites. Automotive navigation system uses the technology on GPS, though it differs from other GPS systems in using position data to locate the vehicle on the units map database.

The essential components of a navigation system are top view for the map with the map rotating like the automobile (the most important component), next curves birds eye-view, to ensure your safety; linear distance gauge, and distance numbers.

The navigation system uses a road data base that contains all the names and addresses of the particular area encoded as geographical coordinates. The information gets updated via the internet as one move from one place to another. Basically it contains a vector map of the area with the help of which it becomes easy to locate someone just by their name or address.

The database used in this system can be stored easily on a magnetic media like hard disk, on a read only memory which comes programmed form the factory or an optical media like CD or DVD. Mostly base map is stored permanently in the ROM and it is accordingly used to extract detailed information about the region in which the user is interested. A combination of all these can also be used.

The first GPS based automotive navigation system was claimed to be developed by Pioneer in 1990.This navigation system helps in finding the location of the vehicle, but in addition to that they offer several other advantages like they give information regarding nearby restaurants, gas stations or cash machine. They can be used to view your favorite TV show or DVD since they use LCD screens. SMS messaging and hands free talking is also possible on some of the advanced systems. These systems also keep one updated about the traffic jams and suggest alternative routes to avoid these jams.

The base maps are created by map vendors like Tele Atlas and NAVTEQ in a standard format GDF. But later they are changed in an optimized format by the electronics manufacturer, which are then used in the navigation system. The format used is uniformly proprietary; as there is no standard for satellite navigation maps.

The automotive navigation system provides excellent services and that is the reason that its demand is increasing all over the world.
