I would like to know peoples opinions on this subject. For or against the government bailing them out and why??
I just got into an argument with a family member over this subject. I have worked in an automotive factory as well as other factory jobs. In my opinion I have seen over and over again that no matter what your loyalty or good service to your company the big wigs will scr*w you over every time given the chance. I am just a peon and do my job and take pride in my work but when the ship starts sinking your job gets cut like you are just a rat that needs to be exterminated.
If this bailout goes through who REALLY benefits from it?? Corporate or the every day worker.
itchmm. I hear what you are saying.

Ford will prevail, chevy and chrysler are going down the shitter.

bail them out. we can’t afford to have these incompetent half-wit workers in other industries.
Sheila
If the company goes down, you lose your job. The bailout might or might not save the company, so who do you think would benefit by it?
FYI - I am against the bailout. This is a capitalist society - the government should never bail out any private business… ever.
Jerome
no one and the companies will fail anyway. this whole thing is a scam
it does, however buy votes and then the repubs take the blame
Janet
I’m against all government bailout. If you aren’t running your business effectively then your business should fail.
Sucks for the workers, yes… but they can take what they know and get together to start a new business and, hopefully, learn from their previous employers mistakes.

All of America benefits from an auto bailout. It is not intended to be a benefit to the workers (except that they don’t go on unemployment)

The big guys still getting outrageous bonuses, spending outrageous corporate funds on travel, parties, freebies….it makes me wonder too…Who in the heck are the taxpayers helping? I am glad to hear it is a loan, and they have to pay it back. Responsible Legislatures will make sure the every day worker is truly helped. World Peace:)

Corporate benefits. You constantly hear of people worried that America is becoming a socialist country, but socialist benefits are given only to large corporations and the previously rich. Meanwhile, workers (not the auto union workers) are forced to work beyond retirment age to be able to afford healthcare. You or I need a bailout for anything and we will not get it. A company with a sub par product will not succeed, that is the bottom line. Free money to bailout american auto will do nothing to make a better product for the consumers because the manufacturers will never learn their lesson. Costs cuts to the product have been made to allow for larger profits for shareholders and the public gets a lousy vehicle. They actually lose money when they sell a car, what are they going to do? Raise the price on a car that nobody wants to begin with?

Ford actually doesnt need the money…but IF the other 2 go down, Ford will have a tough time too because it relys on parts people who serve GM CRYSLER which risk going belly up too. Its a loan, NOT a bailout and is needed unfortunately OR millions of jobs are at risk…NO WAY we can allow that to happen..
Jeff
This is a very complicated issue (the media isn’t just making it LOOK that way) because of the various initial problems that caused this fiasco. If GM gets bailed out, it’s gonna be harder for Congress to put their foot down for the next business that needs a bailout, because that business will point at GM. However, GM’s collapse would affect a huge number of jobs, other industries, and the whole city of Detroit basically. I think they should be given a chance..especially after the banks were bailed out so easily

Both Toyota and GM sold around the same amount of vehicles. Toyota made a profit and GM did not!
If this bailout goes through without any changes in union management and how these auto companies do business we will have to repeat this same thing next year!
Time for some belt tightening by the auto companies if not they can go belly up until a new style management takes over. Toyota, Honda and Nissan have no problems getting people to work for them in America. Perhaps if the American car manufacturers match the same wages paid in those companies making cars in the US they can become profitable again!
Toyota and GM made around the same amount of cars - Toyota made a profit and GM didn’t! That’s all you need to know!

If this bailout were to go through the TAX PAYER will NOT benefit.
the UAW will have shown they still hold the auto buying public in utter contempt.
If the Japanese can sell the same number of cars as GM and Make a 12 billion dollar profit…
HOW IN THE WORLD can GM LOSS 34 Billion dollars????? Does GM have a total friggen IDIOT in charge????
