A friend went to a guy who has his own automotive business. He has his own website saying it’s a business/company with staffs and he’s known in the discussion boards for providing service to numerous people (Vouchers). He says he’s been doing for years.
Well my friend let him work on his car and purchased parts from him since the person said it was his “automotive business” but just at home and not at a commercial property. When the work was done, he didn’t provide an invoice and said it was ‘under the table’.
Since he’s providing a service to NUMEROUS customers, we asked him for his business license #. The business owner claimed that he has a license but he’s never provided one to him. I also found out that a lot of people are getting ripped off by him.
It doesn’t look like he reports his “business” to the IRS since there’s NO invoice. Do i report him to the Bureau of Automotive Repair? The City? What’s the MOST I can do?
I don’t want people like him taking advantage of others.
MCCAIN, Did you read over what i wrote? You COMPLETELY misunderstood what I wrote. I NEVER SAID fixing a car was simple. I’m only asking you guys so I can give my friend some suggestions.

you are the type of people that ruin America. WHY DONT YOU FIX YOUR OWN CAR, IF YOU THINK IT IS SO SIMPLE. You probably cant even change a spark plug….
If you want a true rip off, go to your local car dealer.

Worry about yourself, effecting someone else’s bread and butter can only bring problems.

Perhaps the Federal trade Comission? they handle things like fraud..
Or better yet file a complaint

Seriously, I’d much rather you report someone scamming the welfare system than some poor ******* working to make a living.

Try law enforcament or the BBB Better bussiness bureau! You can even get an award for it!!
Vera
do unto others as you would have them do unto you

Jeez.
If you don’t have anything better to do than rat on your neighbors, I’d recommend taking classes at your local community college, or learning to play a musical instrument or something.
You don’t like the way he does business–then don’t do business with him. If he rips folks off, then eventually it will catch up with him. And the IRS can look after their own accounts.
If you get a bad haircut, do you report your barber to the IRS too?
Lois
First report him to the local Better Business Bureau and they can provide you with a list of options that you can pursue. Depending on your city, county and state laws he may not be required to have a Business License, however he still has to report any income he makes to the various tax agencies. last but not least if he is doing poor work you can sue him to get your money back and pay for getting your car fixed properly.
In all cases be sure you talk to the Better Business Bureau first before you do anything else.

I have the same problem with a guy who strips cycles in his garage and sells the parts on e-bay.
I called my city’s code enforcement officer and filed a complaint. I also looked up his and his wife’s names on properties and contacted IRS. I don’t believe they can purchase that many houses with his wife’s income.
I am waiting to see what happens next.
Unlicensed business is illegal and in wrongly zoned areas needs to move.

His earnings reports are between him and the irs. If he is screwing people they need to report him to the BBB. Even if he doesn’t have a business license. I live in TN and you don’t have to have a business license except to report sales taxes so it depends on your local laws. If it’s that important to your friend he need to take him to small claims court, but you might want to bite your tongue cause if you negatively effect his business you are liable.
