you need a working knowledge in all automotive systems to understand the computer control aspect of autos. the techs who work with the electronics are very smart and have had a lot of education and usually many years in the field.
maybe you should apply for a job with one of the big car manufactures,this way you get to learn all aspects,this would help you understand the need for these components.
you may have some evening classe’s run at your local school.

Heh. Those things are likely shipped in from overseas.
Diagnostics is not bad, though. I’d wish most “helpful” posters here would try that first before tossing out dumb guesses.
