I took my car to walmart for an oil change. The service guy drove it in and they changed the oil. Another service guy started it up and overreved the engine several times, I was there and saw and heard him do it , then he drove it out and parked it. I got in the car and drove it up the road and noticed it was making a noise from the engine and it wasn’t running right. I went back and asked the original service guy to look at it and drive it to see if he could tell what was wrong with it. He did and he told me it was running good when he first drove it in and was not making any noises .I asked him what should I do now. He said take it to a mechanic to see what was wrong. I did. The mechanic said the engine was damaged. I went back to walmart and told them, they called a manager and both of the service guys told the manager it was ok when it came in but it was not now. The manager said that they were not responsible for the damage and they could not help me

A couple of overrevs is not going to damage your engine. The damage came over time. It may have been brought to light because of the revs, but it would have happened in due time anyway.

sounds like your laking proof that they where responsible when it happened. i can’t see any lawyer taking the case.

well it seem that the rev ed the engine it only takes a couple off strong rev eds to blow a rob if you dont believe it slam that pedal to the floor an you will see yes our a list have them fix the car dont stop going back if i was you i would of left the car there GOOD LUCK

walmart is well known for messing up cars. i see all the time in the shop i work in. i would say take your walmart receipt, get the mechanic who looked at your car afterwards to give a statement that the engine is damaged, and a lawyer should take care of the rest. usually walmart will just opt out and replace the engine. i remember about a year ago, the one down the street from where i was working had to replace 24 engine in one year from f**king up on oil changes, because guess what, all of our rejects and fired employes get jobs a wally world. tell ya something there dont it. good luck

You need more info from your mechanic. Simply because the damage became noticable after the reving incident, doesn’t mean is was because of the indicident. Find out. If you get a professional opinion that the damage was caused by reving the engine a couple times (which is doubtful), then you should talk to lawyer about it.

continue to make noise at walmart before giving up…. call them everyday go there and raise hell…. do whatever you can eventually they will do their best to make you go away…..

Call wal-mart headquarters in Bentonville ark. and tell them what manager said and you will sue if they dont fix the problem, but keep your cool while talking to them! And also get the mechanic that looked at it to write you out a statement!

You need more specific information from your mechanic, and a good lawyer - its going to be hard to prove it. Over-revving the engine can and often will cause immediate damage. I did it myself once, and bent all the valves by hitting them with the piston. The car drove like crap after that. However, it depends on whether you have an interference engine, that is, if (under normal operation) the valves extend down past the point where the piston stops at the top of the cylinder. This is the usual way over-revving hurts the engine. The valves can’t close fast enough to avoid the piston, and get bent. If your valves cannot touch the piston, then it may be something else, but I can’t think of anything obvious that could be caused by over-revving.
Check if your car has an electronic rev limiter. If so. then it can’t be over-revved. Check this first, as you can’t tell the revs just by listening to it from the outside (even professionals can’t - that’s why race cars still have a tachometer.) Most cars redline between 6,500 and 7,000 rpm, meaning that they are safe up to this point. From outside (particularly if you don’t normally rev the engine hard), 5,000 rpm can sound like way too much - but won’t hurt anything.
