how do you become an auto transport broker?

i am a automotive transport owner-operator unhappy with the services of my broker. i would like to become my owen broker & possibley broker for other operators. at this point i am extremly ignorant and unsure what my first steps should be.

   A broker needs a DOT license the same as any trucking company. Do a google search and get the info on-line. It’s a tuff racket that is loaded with pitfalls like non-paying deadbeats, etc.

   I was in the biz in the late 80’s/early 90’s and quit cuz i was sick of millionaires owing me $$$.
